Privacy

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking, and nobody sees your story unless you share it.

No accounts

You never sign up or log in. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.

What we store

When you get a verdict, we save one record: your story, the verdict and its percentage, the one-sentence explanation, a random id, and the time. We also keep the name of the model version that judged it, whether you chose to show your story, and a scrambled copy of a secret key that only your browser holds, so only you can change that choice.

The record sits in a private store. We keep it so a share link can show your card, for 12 months, and then delete it.

Your story stays private

Your story is never put in a link or a share image unless you turn on “Add my story to the image.” With it off, a share link shows only the verdict, the percentage and the sentence. You can turn it back off from the same browser on the same device, because the key that lets you change it is kept in that browser only. From anywhere else, email the link to privacy@amithejerk.app and we turn it off.

Share images use only fonts stored on our own server. Characters those fonts don't cover, such as emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean text, are left out of the image and shown as “…”, so no part of your story is sent to an outside font service.

Who reads your story

Two services process the text, and neither is told who you are. TypeSafe's Jev API reads it to decide the verdict. OpenAI reads it, along with the verdict, to write the one sentence. OpenAI never sees a story that was stopped by the safety gate or wasn't a fight.

Your IP address

We use your IP address only to limit how many verdicts one connection can ask for in a minute. It is held in server memory for rate limiting, and in our host's standard request logs for its normal retention. It is not stored with your verdict.

Serious situations

If a story sounds like it involves someone's safety, you get help lines instead of a verdict, and we don't store it at all.

No ads, no selling, no tracking

There are no ads, we don't sell or rent data, and there are no tracking pixels. The site runs no analytics scripts and sets no tracking cookies.

Deleting a verdict

Saved verdicts are deleted after 12 months. To delete one sooner, email the share link to privacy@amithejerk.app and we delete the record.

To report a verdict that names someone or says something hateful, use “Report this verdict” under the card, or email privacy@amithejerk.app.

Children

This site is not for anyone under 13.
