Am I the JerkJudged by Jev

How it works

A judge, not a cheerleader

You type what happened. Jev decides. A writer explains the decision in one sentence, after the decision is already made.

What you get

One of four verdicts, in plain words:

  • NTJYou’re not the jerk
NTJ means Not the Jerk. You were reasonable. They were not.
  • YTJYou’re the jerk
YTJ means You're the Jerk. You caused it. They were reasonable.
  • EJHYou both are
EJH means Everyone's a Jerk Here. Both of you behaved badly.
  • NJHNobody is
NJH means No Jerks Here. An honest clash. No villain.

A percentage: Jev's probability for that verdict. It is calibrated, which means that across many cases, verdicts shown at 80% turn out right about 80% of the time. It is not a guarantee for any one case.

One sentence on why. If no single verdict clears 40%, you get the top two and the words “too close to call” instead.

Who judges

Jev, by TypeSafe. Jev is a decision model, not a chatbot. It reads your story once and scores the same four fixed options every time, with calibrated probabilities. It does not write.

The sentence comes from a separate writer that is told the verdict and asked to explain it. It cannot change the verdict or the number, because both are fixed before it starts.

Why not just ask ChatGPT

Ask a chatbot who was wrong and it will usually take your side. Chatbots are built to please the person typing. Give one the same fight twice, once from each side, and about half the time it tells both people they are not the jerk (Cheng et al., 2025). Chatbots also back the user's actions about 50% more often than people do (Cheng, Jurafsky et al., 2025).

Jev has no one to please. It picks from four options and puts a number on it.

Why not Reddit

A post on Reddit waits 18 hours for a verdict, and the verdict is whatever the top comment said (the subreddit's FAQ). The crowd lands on “not the jerk” about 76% of the time (UC Berkeley D-Lab, 10,826 posts), and threads often turn into arguments about whether the post is fake.

Here you get an answer in seconds, from the same judge every time. We judge only the person typing, so a made-up story costs only its author.

The safety gate

Before any verdict, Jev checks whether the story involves abuse, violence, self-harm, a crime or an emergency. If it does, you get help lines instead of a verdict, and nothing you wrote is stored.

The codes

NTJ is Reddit's NTA, YTJ is YTA, EJH is ESH, NJH is NAH.
